No one finds it easy to go to the gym for the first time, and everyone who is now into fitness was once a beginner. Different machines, props, and weights can look scary, and it’s normal to feel a little uneasy when you go to the gym for the first time.
If you decide you want to go to the gym, that’s a big step in the right direction. Find out what you can do next to feel as safe and confident in the gym as possible by reading the blog below.
1. Should I go by myself or with a friend?
For your first time at the gym, it’s best to go with someone you trust and who makes you feel good. Grab the hand of a friend, coworker, brother, sister, or someone else and head to the gym with them.
2. How should I dress?
You don’t need the newest sneakers or exercise equipment to go to the gym. Just wear clothes that are good for working out. The easiest way to do this is to wear clean sports shoes, a tracksuit or leggings, a sports bra, and a cotton T-shirt that lets air in.
3. How do I know what to expect when I go to the gym?
On our website, you can find a gallery of gym photos for each of our locations. Just click on the gym you want to go to and look at the photos to get a better idea of what to expect when you get there.
4. What should I do for exercise?
Exercise bikes, rowing machines, and treadmills are found in almost all of our gyms. These machines are great for warming up, improving your cardiovascular fitness, and helping you lose weight.
You should also give machines and props a chance to shine. Balanced training is the key to being successful, and if you only do cardio exercises, you might not reach your goals. Start with 10 or 12 reps on each machine, and when you feel ready, increase the amount of weight you lift. It is very important to not use the devices too much.
You can also check out our Instagram page, where we post tips and examples of exercises, to get ideas.
5. Can I use the devices as long as I want?
You can use the machines as long as your exercise program lets you, but you should always be aware of other members who are waiting to use them.
6. How about my cell phone?
Cell phones can be used in the gym, but they can sometimes get in the way of your workout. Try not to use your phone while you’re on one of the devices.
7. What should I do when I’m done with the machine?
Use a towel to use the machine, and then wipe it clean when you’re done. Let’s be honest: You’re going to sweat, and that’s fine. Just be nice and wipe down the device behind you. You can always use the disinfecting sprays and paper towels that are in our gyms. Be sure to put the disinfectant on a paper towel before wiping the machine. Never put it directly on the machine.
If you’re not sure if you’ll like the gym, you can always try it out for one workout and see what you like. In our gyms, we have official personal trainers called Coach4You who will be happy to show you the equipment and teach you how to work out. Also, when you first come to the gym, one of our receptionists will show you around and explain what everything is.
We’ll meet up at the gym.
