Fashion Nova is an American company that sells clothes quickly. The company does most of its business online, but it also has five physical stores. People know that Fashion Nova markets on social media, especially Instagram. Models, celebrities, and other customers get paid or get free clothes from the company in exchange for drawing attention to it. [2] [3] [4]
History
The CEO of Fashion Nova, Richard Saghian, started the company in 2006. He got his start in retail by working at his father’s clothing store in Los Angeles.
[3] Fashion Nova’s first store was in the Panorama Mall in Panorama City, Los Angeles. It sold cheap clubwear clothes. In 2013, Saghian opened the Fashion Nova e-commerce site. [6]
The Curve Collection was released by Fashion Nova in 2016.
[7] In 2018, the company added a line of clothes for men called Fashion Nova Men’s. [8]
In December 2019, the US Department of Labor started an investigation and found that some Fashion Nova suppliers or subcontractors hired workers for as little as $2.77 an hour and owed back wages to hundreds of workers totaling $3.8 million.
In 2020, Fashion Nova promised to give $1 million to a number of social justice groups, such as Black Lives Matter, Know Your Rights Camp, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.[13]
In August 2020, Fashion Nova announced changes to its contracting practices to support California’s proposed bill, SB 1399. These changes include a requirement that its contractors and subcontractors agree to random independent audits and that their workers are paid the applicable minimum wage, which in Los Angeles is set to rise to $15 an hour for all employers in 2021. Fashion Nova also set up a toll-free hotline for workers to use to report wrongdoing and a system of punishments for people who don’t follow the rules it set up to improve things. [14] [15]
In October 2020, Fashion Nova released Maven Beauty, a brand of affordable beauty products.[16]
Richard Saghian is the founder of the company. He doesn’t talk to reporters very often, but it is known that he collects real estate, including homes that Avicii and Ted Sarandos, an executive at Netflix, used to own. He isn’t married and doesn’t have any kids. [17]
Collaborations
In November 2018, Cardi B and Fashion Nova put out a line together.
[18] The collection was released at a “Party with Cardi” party, where Cardi B, Saweetie, and Brianna Perry all performed. It was a very successful start, and all of the items sold out in seconds. [19] Since this collaboration, Fashion Nova has been endorsed by many celebrities and influencers, such as Teyana Taylor, Blac Chyna, and Christina Milian. [20] The store has a seasonal line of Halloween costumes, which are shown for the first time at Halloween events with the store’s most popular ambassadors. [21]
In May 2019, Fashion Nova released the second season of the Cardi B collection, and Cardi B, YG, Blueface, and Lil Nas X all performed.[22]
In April 2020, Fashion Nova started a program called Fashion Nova Cares, which is meant to help social causes.
[23] In the same month, Fashion Nova Cares and Cardi B worked together to give $1 million to people affected by COVID-19. They accomplished this by paying $1,000 per hour for 40 days.[23]
In October 2020, Playboy sued Fashion Nova Inc. in Los Angeles over its Bunny costume’s trademark rights. The lawsuit says that the Bunny mark is made up of the costume’s “iconic bunny ears, tail, ribbon name tag, wrist cuffs, corset, and bowtie collar.” [24]
Fashion Nova’s line with Megan Thee Stallion came out in November 2020. It had statement pieces and a variety of well-made denim for people who are 5 feet, 9 inches (1.75 m), or taller.
[25] Within the first 24 hours of being on sale, the collection reportedly made $1.2 million in sales. [26]
Megan Thee Stallion and Fashion Nova worked together again in March 2021 for the rapper’s Women on Top charity project. The goal of this project is to give women more power by giving them scholarships, grants, and donations to help them with their education and business goals. During Women’s History Month, Fashion Nova Cares gave $25,000 or more to women entrepreneurs, students, and organizations that help women every day. [27] She also started selling swimwear in June.
